What is Test & Tag
Test & Tag or Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) ensures portable and fixed appliances with flexible cords are electrically safe with a tag that is attached to the cord and/or appliance to indicate it has been tested and when the next test is due. The requirements and procedures are defined in AS/NZS 3760:2010
Why Test & Tag
Businesses and PCBU’s (Persons conducting business undertakings) have a responsibility to provide a safe workplace. This requirement is mandated by the Work Health and Safety Act 2012(SA) and associated regulations. Part 7, Division 3, 150 Inspection and testing of electrical equipment specifies that: A person conducting a business or undertaking at a workplace must ensure that electrical equipment is regularly inspected and tested by a competent person.
What We Do
When performing portable appliance testing; we visually inspect appliances and cords for any damage, wear or defects and that they have appropriate compliance markings. We then perform testing using our calibrated portable appliance tester. If all tests and inspections are passed the cord and/or appliance is fitted with a tag to identify who carried out the testing, the date of the testing and the date the next test is due. We can also provide a PDF report of all test results.
We follow the SafeWork SA Code of practice for determining testing frequency based on a risk assessment of the workplace and area that the appliance is located.
